Berkeley tops Hornsby to Advance to Championship Game

Berkeley Middle advanced to the Bay Rivers championship game thanks to an 8-2 win over Hornsby Middle on Monday. Matters looked grim early on for the Bulldogs when the Hawks started the game with back-to-back hits to take a quick 1-0 lead. The Bulldog bats were also quiet as Hornsby retired the first seven Berkeley batters. Alex Russett got a rally started in the third inning with a solid base hit, and Lizam Kalaskas followed with a bunt single that put two on with one out. Berkeley then took the lead thanks to laser shot to center by Jacob Golub that scored both runners. Hornsby tied up the game in the top of the fourth, but Berkeley took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Drew Ramos knocked in a pair with a line drive single, Jacob Golub added another with a towering drive to center, and Jack Nice legged out his second triple of the year to secure the 8-2 lead. The championship game is scheduled for this Thursday at 4:30 at Berkeley Middle School.
