Bikes Out of Hibernation Event Successfully Breathes New Life Into Forgotten Bikes

Williamsburg Area Bicyclists (WAB) and James City County Parks and Recreation co-hosted their successful inaugural event, Bikes Out of Hibernation, on Saturday, April 1st. Nearly 100 participants and volunteers enjoyed the day as local bike shops, BikeBeat, Bikes Unlimited, and Conte's, worked tirelessly for over five hours to provide the participants free and thorough bike inspections. Light refreshments were served, and representatives from Bike Virginia and the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club were also in attendance. Several people commented on how well-organized the event was, and were elated to be able to safely ride their bikes again after a long hiatus in storage. One attendee admitted that they had not ridden their bike in over three years! The Bikes Out of Hibernation event inspired them to dust it off, have its health restored, and then take it out for a spin along the Virginia Capital Trail with volunteer WAB Ride Leaders guiding the way. Numerous people have signed up to join the bike club thanks to this event. If you are interested in doing the same, please check out the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists' website,, or email with any questions.
