Brashear to speak at youth seminar; suicide awareness highlight

Youth4Christ of St. John Baptist Church will sponsor a Youth Empowerment seminar for all youths, along with their parents or guardians, on Saturday, May 28, at St. John. The seminar will run 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and include a presentation and discussion on suicide awareness for youths, addressing issues affecting them in their schools and community. Guest speaker will be Phillip Brashear, son of Carl Brashear, the first African American to become a U.S. Navy master diver. His story was told in the 2000 movie "Men of Honor." Breakfast and lunch will be served. The seminar is free; however, signups are requested at 229-0759. St. John is at 1397 Penniman Rd.
