Mr. Chase Canova was recognized in two separate writing competitions held this year. The first was an essay he wrote and entered in his age category, titled "Young People as Patriotic Mentors in Difficult Economic Times." He was awarded first place by the Patrick Henry #34 local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans' through their annual contest. In addition, he also won first place for a poem he wrote titled "Fool Me Once" through Walsingham Academy's Artistic Voices Poetry Contest. He was presented his award in June at his school's annual closing ceremony. His winning entry was chosen by a professor emeritus from the College of William and Mary who was invited to judge the competition. Mr. Canova is entering his senior year at Walsingham Academy this fall.
