The City of Newport News' annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held on November 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Victory Arch, 25th Street & West Avenue, in downtown Newport News. American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post 25 will once again host this ceremony which honors the many brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who have served in our nation's armed forces. The ceremony is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
This year's guest speaker will be Captain Daniel Shultz, Deputy Director of Diving, Deep Submergence, and Arctic Operations and Research, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Captain Scultz's biography is attached.
Music will be provided by the Post 25 Brass Quintet and the ceremony will feature a color guard made up of Menchville High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets who will lay wreaths honoring veterans from the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine Corps.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at Braxton-Perkins' post home which is located at 7609 Marshall Ave, Newport News, VA 23605.
After the ceremony, the public is invited to learn about America's rich military heritage at the Virginia War Museum. Visit the museum on Memorial Day and receive $1 off the posted admission prices.
