Colonial CASA's reach is explained to Rotary Club

CASA is a name which Judges respect and whose labors give the requesting court valuable information on the influences on the life of a child who has been reported abused or neglected. A CASA is a volunteer who, at the bidding of a Judge, goes out on the streets and collects data from individuals who see the child frequently, or have some knowledge of his home environment. The judge that ordered the report follows the recommendations of the CASA 95% of the time, as no employee of the state can get as close to the situation as a CASA volunteer can. Few would feel the same compassion.

Decisions on whether to put the child up for adoption, place him in a foster home, or return him to his current family with a warning are based almost solely on the CASA's report, stated Charlotte Klamer, Executive Director.

Colonial CASA is one of the local charities supported by the James City County Rotary Club.
