The enthusiastic "cowboys" and "cowgirls" double-downed their support of Dream Catchers at the Cori Sikich Therapeutic Riding Center at its Cowboys Uncorked benefit on Nov. 13. Dream Catchers exceeded its fundraising goals as sponsors and guests declared the event the best-ever.
Held at the Williamsburg Winery, Cowboys Uncorked sold out two weeks in advance drawing a crowd of almost 300. The popular area event has sold out every year since beginning in 2012. Rodeo-themed, the fundraiser complete with cowboy fare, country line dancing, "quick draw" gunslinger competition, "hats & boots" competition and a "flip the cards" raffle, was a hit.
The event's signature highlight included 19 popular local celebrity "arrestees" who raised "bail" donations. The "most wanted" award went to Nancy Dye with TowneBank for raising $4,400.
Proceeds from the event are used to support the mission of Dream Catchers, a non-profit organization that provides 100 life-changing equine-assisted activities and therapies each week to children and adults with one or more of 150 special needs who reside throughout the Williamsburg, Hampton Roads and Richmond communities.
"We are so grateful to our sponsors, celebrity arrestees and supporters whose heartfelt support through Cowboys Uncorked lets us provide essential equine-assisted services to those in-need in our community," says Nancy Paschall, executive director of Dream Catchers at the Cori Sikich Therapeutic Riding Center. "Dream Catchers strives to maximize the return on our fundraising events and the utmost amount of revenue is directed back into our life-changing programs for people with special needs."
