DAR Celebrates First Thanksgiving

Members of the Williamsburg Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution demonstrated their commitment to community service by volunteering at the First Thanksgiving Festival at Berkeley Plantation on November 5. Daughters assisted festival goers with candle dipping, quill writing, corn husk dolls, making sweet bags of lavender, colonial dancing and acting as costumed hostesses throughout the day. The festival is held annually in remembrance of the first landing and Thanksgiving celebrated by Captain John Woodlief when his ship arrived safely on December 4, 1619, one year prior to the Pilgrims landing in Massachusetts.
