The Williamsburg Chapter, NSDAR, conducted a free genealogy look-up service on Thursday, October 13, hosted with the Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) that surpassed all expectations. DAR volunteers were on hand to search the national DAR web site to help those seeking Revolutionary ancestors. Worksheets were provided to capture information that volunteers found to give each applicant for future reference. Librarians created displays of genealogy reference books and they provided online access instruction to the library's databases, Ancestry and HeritageQuest. This was an opportunity to attend an informative genealogy look-up service for free. As soon as the doors opened at 10 a.m. people started flowing in. 50+ local residents came looking for elusive ancestors and about 80% left with valuable information. To quote a popular phrase, "Who do you think you are?", several found out. Due to the success of the day, we hope it will become an anticipated annual event. In the meantime, stop by the Library and check out their genealogy services.
