A reception was recently held by and for former Board members of First Night Williamsburg. It is estimated 125,000 attended during the event's 24-year run in downtown Williamsburg. The original event was brought to the City and the College of William and Mary by Professor Jim and Gale McCord. Large numbers of volunteers were needed to organize and execute this New Year's Eve activity, which culminated each year with fireworks over Zable Stadium. Thanks and appreciation comments
were the focus of the reception. Memories were shared, and Ray Gresham sang "God Bless the USA" for a final time. Star gourmet cookies were passed out as a departing gift. Any existing funds remaining will be donated to the Williamsburg Community Foundation. Some of the current and former board members who attended are pictured from left: Karen Peifer, Paul Miller, Alberta Prather, Casey VanVeen, Shelby Hawthorne, Bruce Landefeld, John Michael, Dale Hall, Ron Adolphi, Grover Lewis, Pat Cranford, Vanessa Silva and Bobby Braxton. Linda and Don Baker, original board members and longtime patrons of First Night, were unable to attend.
