You may fish without a license during the first weekend in June. Take advantage of the free fishing days, June 5, 6 and 7, 2015 and enjoy the great outdoors with your family and friends without having to spend money for a fishing license.
"I urge everyone to take advantage of free fishing days,'' said John M.R. Bull, head of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the agency which manages saltwater fishing. "We work hard to create and maintain sustainable fisheries and to conserve the fisheries habitat so that anglers have good chances of landing some fish. This is what our conservation efforts are all about.''
No fishing license of any kind - in either freshwater and saltwater -- will be required for recreational rod and reel fishing during free fishing days, except in designated stocked trout waters.
However, please keep in mind that all fishing regulations, including size, season, catch limits and gear restrictions, will remain in effect.
Fishing is one of the best bargains around.
A Virginia annual saltwater fishing license costs only $17.50 for state residents. The money supports valuable fisheries work across the state.
"This is a terrific opportunity to discover the joy of fishing and boating," said Bull. "Fishing produces memories that can last a lifetime and can foster a deeper appreciation for our natural environment. Virginia is blessed with excellent fishing opportunities.''
