Winter Wonderland Gala Combats Human Trafficking: Invites Community

Latisha's House Foundation a Williamsburg based non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and restoring victims of sex trafficking with a 24-hour trauma informed safe house; invites the community to come out for the organization's 5th annual, black tie optional, fundraiser gala, "Winter Wonderland".

The event will be held Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at the Two Rivers Country Club in Governor's Land, Williamsburg.

Join us for an evening of live music featuring the British style band, the Hullabaloos, silent and live auctions, exclusive champagne and wine, a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres and a 4-course, five star dinner with Beef, Chicken, Salmon and Vegetarian and/or gluten free options. Elizabeth Ameling, the Founder of Latisha's House will give the opening address with special keynote actresses sharing survivor stories.

Tickets and Sponsorships can be secured online www.latishashouse.com

Latisha's House supporters will enjoy one unforgettable, "snowy" and magical evening at the waterfront Two Rivers Country Club while helping ensure the continued success of one of the few trauma informed safe house programs in the country for female sex trafficked survivors. Latisha's House provides 24-hour care including housing, food, clothing, trauma-informed counseling, medical and psychiatric attention, life skills, therapeutic yoga, art and flower therapy, GED tutoring, college tuition assistance and vocational training.

"The heart of our trauma informed program is to see these innocent women reclaim what was formerly stolen from them-- often during childhood. As one survivor said, 'One day I was playing with Barbie dolls and the next day I was in a stranger's bed.' The Hampton Roads Community has been amazing in their efforts to help rescue and restore women," says Founder and Executive Director, Elizabeth Ameling.

In 2016, the gala raised more than $70,000 for women who are survivors of sex trafficking - including a much needed van to help transport the women at the safe home program. The agency hopes proceeds from this year's event will break $100,000.

Founded in 2014, Latisha's House was birthed after encountering and rescuing a young girl on the streets of Chicago from her pimp during a youth mission trip from Virginia. Most Americans are shocked to learn that Human Trafficking takes place domestically, with research estimating that up to 300,000 American women and children are trafficked annually within the United States alone. In fact, Virginia ranks ninth in the nation for human trafficking. There were 746 phone calls, emails, or online tips reporting human trafficking made to the National Trafficking Hotline in 2016. Northern Virginia has the highest volume of trafficking, next to Hampton Roads, Williamsburg, James City County and Richmond.
