On Saturday, Dec. 9, more than 1,600 Girl Scouts, troop leaders and their family members celebrated the upcoming launch of the annual Cookie Program at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center.
Sponsored by TowneBank, the Cookie Kickoff gave Girl Scouts the opportunity to learn and build on skill sets, set goals and learn about money management so they can successfully participate in the annual Cookie Program.
Stacey Hasty, assistant vice president of TowneBank and Girl Scout alumna, spoke to hundreds of Girl Scouts about finance basics and goal-setting during mini management sessions.
"It's an opportunity for them to shine and get them to talk to others," Hasty said. "It also teaches them basic finance skills and how to set and achieve. It's just beneficial on so many levels."
Hasty said the program is a great setting for girls to develop the characteristics of "true leaders."
Through activity stations placed throughout the aquarium, Girl Scouts also learned about people skills, decision making and business ethics.
Girl Scouts will begin door-to-door cookie sales on Jan. 6, 2018. Booth sales will begin on Feb. 18.
