The Griffin Avenue neighborhood including Newport Ave., Pollard Park, Idlewood Lane and adjacent streets held its annual picnic on Sunday, September 11th at the home of Llew & Janet Smith. Organized by Janet and City Councilwoman Barbara Ramsey, it has proven successful in fostering better relationships between long-term and student residents and in creating a more cohesive neighborhood. All welcomed the opportunity to get to know one another and to share a meal (students particularly appreciate the leftovers!). Neighborhood picnics are encouraged and supported by the City as a way of promoting better town/gown relations; contact Carolyn Murphy at 757-220-6130 for information.
