Greater Williamsburg Association for Volunteer Administration (G.W.A.V.A.) members recently met at Waller Mill Park. Park Manager and G.W.A.V.A. member, Michael VanAudenhove, hosted the meeting. He provided a brief history of the park, a tour of the area around the docks, and shared information about the many activities available to park visits. Waller Mill Park has boating, fishing, shelters, disc golf, a dog park, hiking trails, and more. During the meeting members discussed volunteer rewards and challenges and made announcements about upcoming events.
The purpose of G.W.A.V.A. is to provide administrators of volunteer services with opportunities to further a career in volunteer administration, improve skills, enhance professionalism, and to exchange ideas and information. Additionally G.W.A.V.A. broadens community awareness of volunteerism and encourages involvement of volunteers in community service organizations, agencies, and institutions.
