Reverend Monsignor Timothy E. Keeney, pastor of St. Bede Catholic Church, recently spoke to the Rotary Club of Williamsburg highlighting the biography of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who became Pope Francis on March 13, 2013. Msgr. Keeney also addressed some of the differences between Europeans and Americans in interpreting some of Pope Francis's recent publications. Msgr. Keeney noted that differences in interpretation between Europe and America may be in part due to how the European legal system treats the Pope's background. Msgr. Kenney, who received a degree from the Washington and Lee School of Law, practiced locally here in Norfolk before entering the priesthood. He chose to enter the priesthood in 1996 rather than continue as a lawyer following his taking graduate studies in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In the photo, Msgr. Keeney is receiving a certificate from Williamsburg Rotary Club president Chuck Hobson stating that a book was donated in his honor to the Williamsburg regional Library in appreciation for his enlightened presentation.
