At the January meeting of the John Clayton Chapter, Virginia Native Plant Society, members were privileged to hear Historian Martha McCartney reveal background information on the chapter's namesake, John Clayton. In researching her recently published book about the history of Mathews County, Martha uncovered material not previously known about Clayton's residence, occupations, and personal life. The talk was fascinating, and much appreciated by an audience in Williamsburg of over 50 persons. Photo: Vice-president Donna Ware, Martha McCartney by Helen Hamilton
