Historic Grace Church's diverse missions feed the hungry

Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown is involved in ongoing missions to neighbors far and near. Weekly donations on non-perishable food items and paper products are collected and taken to the York County Food Closet. Throughout the year, the Backpack Ministry fills backpacks with nutritious food items sent each weekend for York County School children and their families designated by the county. One Sunday each month, volunteers prepare and serve meals at the Saint Paul's, Newport News, Breakfast Ministry and at various People Offering Resources Together (PORT) locations in Newport News to serve the homeless. A new yearly effort is involvement in Stop Hunger Now, where this Feb. 29, 10,152 meals were purchased, prepared and packaged in just over an hour with 75 volunteers ages 3-80. For our animal neighbors, regular collections of food, treats and other items are delivered to local shelters and the Peninsula Pet Pantry.
