After many months back and forth discussions, York County School Board members decided to drop their $7,000 tuition proposal for this year's incoming high school foreign exchange students.
However, host families are still needed!
Exchange students will be here for the first semester or full school year, arriving early Sept and departing mid-January (or mid-June, '17). Students have their own spending money and health insurance, are fluent in English, attend the high school for which the host family is zoned, and will be fully supervised for the duration of their stay.
Anyone can host- traditional families, single parents, empty nester's, working parents, etc. Host families are volunteer but the only expense to hosting is room and board. Hosting is a wonderful way to learn about another country and culture while sharing our own. For a family with young children, hosting is a wonderful way to introduce them early on to another country and culture and for those children already learning a language in school, hosting gives them a chance to try that language one-on-one with a native speaker.
Students and host families are matched by shared interests and hobbies, preferred country of origin, age, and gender.
Folks willing to host a student can contact Welby Whiting, Regional Manager with International Student Exchange at 757-566-1225 or firstname.lastname@example.org (www.iseusa.org)
