WHAT: International Drone Day
WHERE: Williamsburg Jamestown Airport, 100 Marclay Drive, Williamsburg, VA
WHEN: May 5, 2018 (Rain Day is May 6, 2018) 10:00am until 2:00pm
Over 40,000 drones are sold each and every month and people love flying them. However, many people fear drones and work to pass laws banning them. If nothing is done, the almost certain future is that there will be fewer and fewer places to legally fly and the world will lose out on the many amazing things drones can do for the people.
To address this a day was created to celebrate drones and their uses and to educate the media, public and local governments about the many good things drones are used for. This special day is called International Drone Day 2018 and is set to be even larger than last year. Hundreds of teams throughout the world will hold events to educate those outside of the drone community about the many positive ways in which drones are used to better society. The mantra of those participating is "Drones are Good!"
International Drone Day (our third event) at the Williamsburg Jamestown Airport will include drone racing, aerial photography and videography, and search and rescue demonstrations. All events are open to the public and press, with photographs, filming and interviews welcome.
We would love for you to attend our International Drone Day event on Saturday May 5th, 10:00am until 2:00pm, sponsored by the Tidewater Virginia Area UAS UAV Drone Users Group Club.
Our Goals are to educate the public that "drones are good" by highlighting their positive applications, such as:
- Search and rescue
- Law enforcement
- Fire fighting
- Environmental and marine research, conservation and preservation
- Art (photography; cinematography)
- Education through STEM and STEAM
