INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED PIANIST AWADAGIN PRATT PERFORMS RECITAL AT NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Norfolk State University is proud to present pianist Awadagin Pratt in a recital on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 5 p.m. The concert will be held at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center on the campus of Norfolk State University. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students with valid IDs. Tickets will be sold at the door and can be purchased in advance by calling (757) 823-8582/8529, emailing scha@nsu.edu, or purchasing online at nsuchoirs.com. Following Sunday's recital, Mr. Pratt will conduct a masterclass on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 12 p.m. at the Wilder Center. There is free admission to the masterclass.

Awadagin Pratt began studying piano at the age of six. His honors include winning the Naumburg International Piano Competition, receiving the Avery Fisher Career Grant, performing three times at the White House, and giving performances all over the world. After studying at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, he became the first student of the school's history to receive diplomas in three performance areas - piano, violin, and conducting. His recent recordings include the Brahms Sonatas for Cello and Piano with Zuill Bailey. Currently, Mr. Pratt is a professor of piano and artist in residence at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is also the artistic director of the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati.

Norfolk State University's Division of Music is an Accredited Institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
