July 18, 2017 (Williamsburg, VA) - Williamsburg Irish dance studio, Rose & Sword Academy of Irish Dance, will host international Irish dance sensation Fusion Fighters on Saturday, July 22. Fusion Fighters are a modern Irish dance company that melds traditional Irish dance with other dance forms including tap, body percussion, and contemporary.
Fusion Fighters Artistic Director Chris Naish and crew member Jaime Hodges will be instructing area Irish dance students in a workshop aimed at challenging students to master Naish's intricate and modern choreography. Naish hails from Bristol, UK, and was a competitive Irish dancer winning All-Ireland, European and national competitions. Naish then spent 5 years touring with the Irish dance sensation Riverdance. Hodges' competitive career included top 5 national finishes and top 10 in international competition.
Naish and Hodges have been touring internationally this spring with their Create Not Hate campaign. The campaign aims to use Irish dance to raise awareness of worthy causes and to tell inspirational stories of making a difference in the world.
Rose & Sword Academy offers Irish dance classes for students ages 3 to adult. The studio performs at Williamsburg's 2nd Sundays in addition to performing at area independent living & retirement communities and other community venues. Dancers also compete through the World Irish Dance Association (WIDA) at regional, national and international competitions. The Williamsburg studio is located at 3715 Strawberry Plains Rd.
