J. Blaine Blayton student wins Virginia PTA Power Plates competition

Lindsay Hanks, daughter of Chris and Mary-Lyons Hanks and a fourth grade student at J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School, was recently awarded first place in the state of Virginia for her original recipe for Mexican Pizza in the lunch category for intermediate grades in the Virginia PTA Power Plates competition. The Virginia PTA Health and Safety Committee manages and administers this program designed to encourage students to practice healthy eating habits by submitting their original recipes. Students created their recipes based on the choosemyplate.gov guidelines for a healthy meal. The competition is open to students from grade pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Entries are judged by judges appointed by the Virginia PTA Health and Safety Committee. First place winners were invited to be recognized at the Virginia PTA Reflections and Awards Ceremony in Richmond on May 1, 2016.
