JOHN CLAYTON-UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL
Join us on Thursday, January 19th, at 6:45 pm in the James City County Recreation Center (5301 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188) for a presentation by historian Martha McCartney on the celebrated botanist John Clayton. This colonial era botanist, John Clayton, namesake of the John Clayton Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society, is lauded for his role in creating the first flora compilation written for Virginia. His international stature among 18th century botanists is also well documented. But what do we know about him as a person? Join us on January 19th and become much better acquainted with this important Virginian and to learn what Martha McCartney, in the course of writing a history of Mathews County, Virginia, has discovered about the life of John Clayton. Sponsored by the John Clayton Chapter of the Native Plant Society, this event is free and open to the public.
