Kristina Finch earns doctoral degree.

Kristina Finch, a graduate of Lafayette High School, has recently completed her doctoral studies
and earned her OMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. She
began her harp music studies at Rawls Byrd Elementary School with Cynthia Campbell in the 3rd
grade. After developing her skills, she began studying with Barbara Chapman, Principal Harpist
with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Virginia Opera. In addition to studying harp, Kristina
participated in band by playing french horn in the Lafayette High School Band under the direction
of Mr.Allen Wright. She also served as principal harp with the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia
and won first place in their annual concerto competition in 2003.
Kristina continued to study with Ms. Chapman until graduation from high school and went on to
study harp performance at Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY with Kathleen Bride. Upon
completion of her undergraduate studies at Eastman, she continued her harp studies at Florida
State University
, with full scholarship & stipend, with Mary Brigid-Roman, obtaining her master's
degree. She then continued her harp performance studies at Eastman where she won their
annual concerto competition in 2011 and earned a prestigious Performance Certificate. The
culmination of her studies was her achievement of a Doctor of Music in Harp Performance and
Literature once again under the tutelage of Ms. Kathleen Bride at the Eastman School of Music.
Kristina is currently working as a freelance harpist in the Miami, FL area playing for the Miami
Symphony Orchestra, teaching privately, performing for weddings, and cultivating community
engagement projects through her non-profit organization, the Project Largo Music Foundation.
Kristina is a contributing author for the Harp Column magazine and maintains an active blog for
the Harp Column's online presence. When she is not working, Kristina is enjoying her newly
adopted french bulldog puppy "Roux" and planning her 2017 wedding to Mr. Dannel Espinoza,
her Kontra Duo partner.
At a Bruton Parish Church Candlelight Concert, the Kontra Duo, a duet of harp and saxophone,
will perform duets and solos on Tuesday, November 24th at 8:00 PM featuring Mr. Dannel
Espinoza, saxophone and Ms. Kristina Finch, harp. Kristina and Dannel have developed a unique
sound blending their two instruments. They are constantly working to expand the repertoire for
this unique ensemble through the commission of exciting new music and the re-imagining of
classical music.
Kristina is the daughter of Robert & Carole Finch of Williamsburg.
