Lecture: College of William & Mary Campus: Antibiotic Use and Manure Management of CAFOs in Virginia

This colloquium event examines environmental problems associated with CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations), also known as factory farms.

Dr. Rory Maguire is an associate professor at Virginia Tech and his research focuses on optimizing farming practices to minimize their environmental impact and developing innovative ways to apply animal manure as fertilizer without leading to nutrient overloading. Dr. Maguire will provide a lecture entitled "Can we sustainably manage manure nutrients from modern poultry production?"

Dr. Kang Xia is an associate professor at Virginia Tech and her research revolves around the fate of anthropogenic chemicals in soil and water, such as pharmaceutical compounds and nutrients from animal waste. Dr. Xia will provide a lecture entitled "Human health and environmental concerns of antibiotic use in animal production"
