Williamsburg Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Legacy Financial Group has established a new scholarship with the Williamsburg-James City County Scholarship Fund. The Legacy Financial Group scholarship is for a Warhill High School student with an interest in finance, science, or technology.
The WJCC Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for students graduating from Jamestown, Lafayette, and Warhill High Schools. Established in 1974 as the Lafayette Education Fund, the WJCC Scholarship Fund is a community-wide effort to recognize the accomplishments of local students as they graduate from high school and support their further educational achievements. In June 2016, 46 scholarships valued at $55,925 were awarded to local students. Funds raised to support scholarship come from individuals, families, high school parent-teacher associations, civic groups and local businesses like Legacy Financial Group.
Students interested in applying for a scholarship can visit WilliamsburgCommunityFoundation.org to apply online. Deadline to apply is March 19, 2017. Scholarships are awarded in consideration of these factors: curriculum difficulty, class rank, extra-curricular activities, application essay, and financial need. It is not necessary for a student to show financial need in order to be eligible for a WJCC Scholarship Fund scholarship.
Scholarship is just one of the Community Foundation's priority areas, which include Arts & Culture, Children & Young Adults, Environment & Conservation, Senior Services, and Health & Community Wellness. The Williamsburg Community Foundation is a collection of gifts from generous local citizens, mostly invested in long-term endowment funds, which will benefit our community forever. Each fund provides grant making dollars for changing community needs. Since 1999, the Foundation has distributed $6.9 million for grants and scholarships combined.
