Lions conduct vision screening at Matthew Whaley Elementary School

James City Lions Club members recently conducted vision screening of 151 kindergarten and third grade students at the school. Eleven were referred for further evaluation. The students were screened using a "Welch Allyn SPOT Vision Screener". The SPOT Vision Screener is a handheld, portable device that can detect focusing issues and provide an assessment of the following vision problems: nearsightedness, farsightedness, blurred vision, unequal refractive power, and eye misalignment. During October, the James City Lions and Williamsburg Host Lions Clubs will screen all incoming pre-school, kindergarten and third grade students at the nine Williamsburg-James City County (WJCC) Elementary Schools.
