Tuesday's speaker was Joan Peterson, Executive Director of Literacy for Life. This organization, located in the School of Education at the College of William and Mary, serves over 800 people in the greater Williamsburg area, and is one of this Rotary Club's supported charities. The Literacy for Life overview we received enlightened and informed our members about this unique, non-profit organization, and described meaningful individual service opportunities there, right in our own backyard.
Volunteers in this program bring the gift of literacy to incarcerated individuals who, for various reasons, would never have had the opportunity to benefit from it otherwise.
It was our pleasure to present our donation during the meeting.
