Michael Andreczyk gives presentation on Camellias to FCGC members

On October 14th, Michael Andruczyk gave an extensive and informative presentation to Ford's Colony Garden Club membership on the growing and care of camellias in southeastern Virginia. Mr. Andruczyk is a Cooperative Extension Agent for Chesapeake VA. He has extensive knowledge of camellias and is a board member of the VA Camellia Society. His presentation covered the various species available in our area, their blooming times, plant sizes and the various bloom types which include single, double, anemone, rose and peony form. He also discussed the care and feeding of camellias such as the type of fertilizer to use, the acidity of the soil, light needs and pruning. In addition he covered the various pests and diseases to which camellias are susceptible and how to combat them. He concluded by covering the various propagation methods and the preparation of blooms for showing. Members' questions were answered throughout the presentation. Mr. Andruczyk received a very enthusiastic round of applause at the conclusion.
