Enjoy a summer evening outdoors at New Quarter Park on Wednesday, July 27. First, sit back and tap your toe during the park's summer Moonlight and Music Jam, then head out to discover more about the creatures of the night during Black Lights and Bugs.
The round-robin music jam is led by local musician Joe Duggan of Joe's Day Off. Moonlight and Music Jams are held monthly through September from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Upcoming jams are scheduled for July 27, August 25, and September 28. Bring your guitar, fiddle, harmonica, drum, dulcimer, voice and meet in the picnic shelter area just off of the parking lot. Listeners should bring their own lawn chair.
Celebrate National Moth Week from 9 to 11 pm by meeting Historic Rivers Chapter Virginia Master Naturalists to observe moths and other creatures of the night. Local naturalist Teta Kain kicks off the evening with a presentation about the moths you can expect to see. Afterward, head out to white sheets backlit by black lights to attract bugs. See what's out and about, learn to identify moths and bugs with Master Naturalists. Bring your flashlight, camera, and curiosity.
