MUSIC CLUB AWARDS GRANTS TO EIGHTEEN AREA STUDENTS

The Williamsburg Music Club has awarded $7,950 to eighteen winners at the 2017 Grants Auditions held on March 11th at Ewell Hall on the campus of William and Mary. The Music Club's annual auditions are open to fifth through twelfth grade music students in the greater Williamsburg area and to students of teachers who reside or teach in the greater Williamsburg area.

Receiving the first prize award of $1000 in the Senior Division was Sarah Heifetz, violin student of Arkady Heifetz. Second prizes of $750 each were awarded to Kevin Hong, piano, and Melissa Zhu, piano. Honorable mention awards of $300 each were granted to: Annie Cao, piano, Tara Davy, voice, Eliza Greer, oboe, Anna Heffington, voice, Elizabeth Horley, organ, and Noah Mendoza, trumpet. Eliza Geer was also awarded the Kathy Exton Prize of $500 given to the outstanding high school senior who plans to study music at the college level.

In the Junior Division, first prize of $750 was awarded to Jennifer Zhang, a piano student of Jolanta Szewczyk. Second prizes of $500 were awarded to Michael Gibson, organ, and Anna Zhang, piano. Honorable mention awards of $200 each were given to Ritchie Bui, piano, Yunseo Chung, violin, Edric Han, piano, Esther Kim, violin, Caleb Song, violin, and Emily Wu, piano.
