NAACP HONORS LIFE MEMBERS
Nearly guests attended the YJCW-NAACP 36th Annual Life Membership Awards Banquet held recently at the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge. Dr. Robert Trent Vinson, Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies at The College of William & Mary, Presided over the evening. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. John W.Kinney, Dean of Virginia Union University School of Theology.
The annual event honored those who have attained life membership status in the organization through financial investment in the work of the NAACP. Seven Silver Life Membership Awards were presented, along with three Gold Life Memberships.
Also during the evening, Barbara Haywood was presented the J. Blaine Blayton Community Service Award for her professional service to the community as a nurse practitioner, and 25 years of dedicated service as a member of the York County School Board.
The annual fund-raising event was sponsored by more than 90 local businesses, civic/community organizations, churches, educational institutions and local governments. Proceeds support the Branch scholarships, civil rights programs and advocacy work, voter empowerment initiatives, and community outreach efforts in health and education.
