Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism’s Active Lifestyles Receives Instructor Training Grant for Physical Activity Program

Newport News, VA, March 28, 2017 - Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism's Active Lifestyles will offer the Active Living Every Day (ALED) program to Newport News and surrounding areas thanks to an instructor training grant from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism is one of 46 park and recreation agencies to receive the ALED instructor training grant. The ALED program will offer classes once per week for 12 weeks by trained instructors. These classes are ideal for anyone 50+ that is interested in becoming and staying active. The Active Lifestyles Program's aim is to promote health and wellness throughout the community and these moderate-intensity physical activity classes are a great alternative to traditional fitness programs. The Spring session will be free and will begin Friday, April 28, 2017, 10:00 am at Courthouse Way Community Center, 14302 Old Courthouse Way, Newport News, VA.
