Peninsula 10-Year-Old Graduates from Broadway's School of Rock

Hampton Roads, Virginia, July 29, 2017 - 10 year old actor Sammy
Ramirez, a Peninsula native, will finish his 8-month run with the
Broadway hit School of Rock at the Winter Garden Theater in New York
City on July 30th.

Based on the hit 2003 film of the same name, School of Rock features
music from the movie, as well as original music by Andrew Lloyd
Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Julian Fellowes, and
direction by Laurence Connor. The story follows Dewey Finn, a failed,
wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a
substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a
class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping,
mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what
it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school's beautiful but
uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
Ramirez plays the role of "Billy the Stylist," who provides plenty of
comedic banter between Dewey and Billy.

Sammy was offered the role in November 2016 after a series of
auditions held in New York City. The final audition was in front of a
live audition panel and was also video recorded. "I sang Michael
Jackson's 'I Want You Back' for my audition. I remember seeing the
choreographer get up and start dancing. I got so excited, I had to do
an M.J. spin, which made them smile," remembers Ramirez. The final
audition recording was sent to London for approval from Andrew Lloyd
Webber himself. "I remember meeting Andrew Lloyd Webber one day
backstage and he remembered what I sang for my audition, that was
pretty cool!" When somebody leaves the show, the cast and crew refer
to it as graduating from the prep school known as Horace Green
Academy. They even receive a diploma that is hung in the Winter Garden
Theater next to previous graduates. Ramirez will be graduating with 5
other cast members.

During his time with School of Rock, he has met several celebrities
that have come to see the show, most notably Will Smith, Julia
, and Ben Vereen. Besides performing for up to 1600 audience
members, eight shows per week, young Ramirez performed on ABC's Good
Morning America, Stars in the Alley, and Broadway in Bryant Park.

Sammy Ramirez studied at the Eastern Virginia School of the Performing
Arts in Williamsburg prior to debuting on Broadway. He has appeared
locally with Virginia Musical Theater, Busch Gardens Christmas Town,
Williamsburg Players, Peninsula Community Theater, and Centerstage
Academy. Sammy Ramirez is represented by Carson Kolker Agency, NYC for
theatrical work and Abrams Artist, NYC for commercial work and is a
member of Actors Equity Association. For professional inquiries
