On January 12, the Williamsburg Rotary club heard from nurse Karen Stokes who serves as the Coalition Coordinator of the `Safe Kids' organization in our Historic Triangle region. Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is the lead agency for Safe Kids in this area. Safe Kids mission is to work towards keeping all kids safe from preventable injuries. Ms. Stokes presented the operation of Safe Kids that collect and analyze data on children's accidents and distributes findings to its partners through its global network, so that consistent guides can be provided to parents, caregivers, educators, and kids. In addition, the Safe Kids organization serves as a primary advocate for new and improved laws aimed at reducing unintentional injuries to children. and it is planning to designate April 23 as their Safe Kids day so awareness is maintained.
