Senior Medicare Patrol: Protect, Detect & Report Fraud and Abuse

Medicare fraud, errors and abuse affects everyone; billions of taxpayer dollars are lost to fraud and improper claims. This problem puts the Medicare trust fund at greater risk and leads to higher premiums and less money for needed healthcare benefits.

The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is a consumer education program, funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of the SMP is to educate Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers about Medicare fraud and abuse. Here in Virginia, it is administered by the VA Association of Area Agencies on Aging and relies mostly on volunteers to help perform the work of the SMP.

The Williamsburg Chapter 685 of the National Association of Active and Retired Employees meets the second Tuesday of the month. Contact jeff.fratter@gmail.com for more details.
