Seven congregations in upper James City County come together for Lent

For the second year, congregations in upper James City County came together to worship for seven Wednesdays in Lent beginning with Ash Wednesday at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church. Followed by Our Saviour's Lutheran Church; Williamsburg Mennonite Church; New Zion Baptist Church, a new participant this year; Olive Branch Christian Church; Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church; and, Stone House Presbyterian Church.
Each church designated a local charity to receive the offering: Angels of Mercy Medical Clinic, $641; FISH, $531; Williamsburg Hospice House, $1,390; The Harbor Respite Day Shelter, $420; Child Development Resources, $931; From His Hands, $660; and, Proclaiming Grace, $541, totaling $5,114.
As a result of coming together to worship during the Lenten season, the Ministerial Association of Upper James County was formed last year that includes lay and clergy. In December 2015, the first Community Christmas program was held at the Williamsburg Christian Academy. The group plans another Christmas event this December. For more information about the Christmas event or the Ministerial Association of Upper James City County, contact the Rev. James P. Nickols at 757.564.3745.
