ABOUT THE EVENT
Before we put people on the moon, we had to dream about going there. In the early twentieth century, carnivals, theme parks, resorts, and fairs featured paper moon photography booths. Guests entered the booth, sat on a crescent moon against a starry sky with props, and had a portrait made. After a few minutes, an inexpensive print was made as a souvenir of the amusement and frequently became material for postcards. Nearly one-hundred years later, we have put people on the moon, but most of us will never get to be there.
A regional team consisting of local architects and painters came together to create a paper moon set, specifically for an event that would benefit Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg. The moon set is vintage-inspired but attractive to a twenty-first century audience accustomed to mobile phone sharing. Enthusiasts of celestial delights, dreamers, lovers of historic Americana, and compassionate supporters can have their portraits made on the moon with 100% of the proceeds going to Hospice House. The event is hosted by the Linda Matney Art Gallery, located at 5435 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (near the intersection of Richmond Rd. and Airport Rd next to the Carolina Furniture shop)
