Susan Dickerson, Owner
The Flying Needles
WILLIAMSBURG, VA, Oct. 10, 2017 - It's a party at The Flying Needles this weekend as the Local Yarn Shop celebrates its 1st Anniversary.
"It's been a wild ride," said Owner Susan Dickerson. "I want to say thank you to The Flying Needles community, which constantly amazes me at their staunch support for buying local and supporting local business. Without them, this entire year would not have been possible."
Prizes, a Red Carpet Walk, a Needle Tasting, a Trunk Show and spinning and weaving demonstrations headline Saturday's events, which begin at 10 am and end at 5 pm Saturday, Oct. 14. Everyone who has completed any of the Knit-A-Longs is invited to walk the Red Carpet at 2 pm along with any beginner who completed a project. Prizes will be given throughout the day, and you must be present to win. Knitter's Pride needles will be on hand to test out knitting & crochet needles like Cubix, Zings and Karbonz. Windchaser Angoras will be spinning Angora rabbit fur right from the rabbit. Lorna's Laces yarn will be in the shop with more than 30 knitted and crocheted samples.
In its first year of business, The Flying Needles has taught more than 50 people how to knit, more than 20 people how to crochet and has collected more than 300 handmade items for the homeless in its Handmade for the Homeless event.
"The Flying Needles is a home to anyone knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning or using any fiber," Dickerson said. "Our Open Stitch Nights and Mornings have become a place for newcomers to long-time residents to come together over one commonality - a love for yarn."
The Flying Needles, located at 5251 John Tyler Highway, Suite 11, in the Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center, specializes in unique and fine yarns. The shop holds Open Stitching every Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm and Thursday from 10 am to noon. The Flying Needles has a wide variety of classes, yarn tastings and trunk shows. Classes are posted to the website through January at www.FlyingNeedlesYarn.com. For questions or to RSVP for the Red Carpet Walk, call (757) 345-3655.
