Local Citizen Art Patrons Offered Unique Opportunity to Per-Purchase Festival Works
Gloucester, Va. April 19, 2017 - An impressive roster of award-winning artists will participate in the inaugural Gloucester Arts Festival, and local Art Patron enthusiasts will be given a unique opportunity to pre-purchase their work.
Seventeen competing artists and three guest artists - all featured in Gary Pendleton's definitive book 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid Atlantic - are confirmed to participate in the festival taking place May 20-28, 2017. Hand-picked by curator artist Dorothy Fagan, the artists will celebrate life at the river over the course of the festival, capturing the impressive Gloucester countryside and seascape in the first ever Heart of the River Collection.
The artists will participate in outdoor "plein air" painting sessions that inspire them to capture the natural beauty and charm of the area, and festival attendees can gather at designated picturesque venues to watch the artistic magic unfold. Venues include Little England Farm, Brent and Becky's Bulbs, Beaverdam Park, York River Yacht Haven, Warehouse Landing, Goshen Farm and others.
"We cannot wait to see these acclaimed talents bring the unique wonders of our community to life through art," said Jenny Crittenden, Executive Director of the Cook Foundation, a key presenter of the festival. "And we're excited to be able to offer the biggest art fans among us special access and buying opportunities by becoming Art Patrons."
Festival Attendees Can Become Art Patrons
Interested art enthusiasts are invited to become Art Patrons and collect painting selections created by the talented festival artists. The exceptional works in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel will be priced in the $500-$2,000 range, unveiled during the awards presentation gala on Friday, May 26 at Arts on Main when sales open to the public.
Art Patrons who buy a pre-purchase certificate for $500 will be able to choose paintings before the public offering - creating a unique opportunity to acquire a beautiful original plein air painting for their personal collection while supporting the creation of the Heart of the River Collection.
The pre-purchase certificate also gives Art Patrons preferred access to festival events, with additional access to artists throughout the week. Art Patrons will receive tickets to the Meet the Artists Dinner at Beecreek at Sassafras, the awards gala reception at Arts on Main, and a farewell reception with participating artists on Sunday afternoon.
The Gloucester Arts Festival events and Symphony Under the Stars, which rounds out the festival on May 27, are supported by the Cook Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 committed to enhancing quality-of-life by promoting local arts and architecture.
