A Youth Empowerment seminar for all youths, as well as their parents or guardians, will be held Saturday, May 28, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church. The seminar will include a presentation and discussion on suicide awareness for youths, addressing issues affecting them in their schools and community. Guest speaker will be Phillip Brashear, son of Carl Brashear, the first African American to become a U.S. Navy master diver and whose story was depicted in the movie "Men of Honor." The seminar is free, and breakfast and lunch will be served. St. John is at 1397 Penniman Rd.
