TowneBank to serve as 2017 Presenting Sponsor for WJCC Scholarship Fund at the Williamsburg Community Foundation

Williamsburg Community Foundation is pleased to announce that TowneBank will be the 2017 Presenting Sponsor for the Williamsburg-James City County Scholarship Fund. TowneBank will sponsor three $1,000 scholarships for local high school seniors, to be awarded in June.

The WJCC Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for students graduating from Jamestown, Lafayette, and Warhill High Schools. Established in 1974 as the Lafayette Education Fund, the WJCC Scholarship Fund is a community-wide effort to recognize the accomplishments of local students as they graduate from high school and support their further educational achievements. In June 2016, 46 scholarships valued at $55,925 were awarded to local students. Funds raised to support scholarship come from individuals, families, high school parent-teacher associations, civic groups and local businesses like TowneBank.

Scholarships are awarded in consideration of these factors: curriculum difficulty, class rank, extra-curricular activities, application essay, and financial need. It is not necessary for a student to show financial need in order to be eligible for a WJCC Scholarship Fund scholarship.

Scholarship is just one of the Community Foundation's priority areas, which include Arts and Culture, Children and Young Adults, Environment and Conservation, Senior Services, and Health and Community Wellness. The Williamsburg Community Foundation is a collection of gifts from generous local citizens, mostly invested in long-term endowment funds, which will benefit our community forever. Each fund provides grant making dollars for changing community needs. Since 1999, the Foundation has distributed $6.9 million for grants and scholarships combined.
