United Way Bids Farewell to Two Board Members

The United Way of Greater Williamsburg is saying goodbye to two retiring board members, Steve McCary and Genevieve Owens. United Way staff, volunteers, and current board members recognize Steve and Genevieve for their service on the Board of Directors and their generous contributions to improving lives in our community.

McCary is the retiring Vice President/Administrator of Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg. He has served the United Way as chair of the Finance Committee and as Treasurer. Owens, who recently completed her service as Director of the Williamsburg Regional Library, served as the Secretary of the United Way. McCary and Owens had a combined eight years of service on the United Way's board.

"Steve and Genevieve were outstanding board members whose devotion to the United Way went well beyond the board room," said Liz Parman, Interim Director of the United Way of Greater Williamsburg. "Theirs was a contagious enthusiasm for the United Way's mission that they used to build and maintain support in their workplaces and in the community at large."

"The success of the United Way has always depended on the strength of its board members," said Jake Liebler, President of the United Way of Greater Williamsburg's Board of Directors. "Steve and Genevieve were both leaders on the board and the executive committee. They showed self-sacrificing dedication to the United Way's mission of mobilizing the caring power of people and community. In so doing, they improved countless lives."

United Way of Greater Williamsburg thanks both Steve McCary and Genevieve Owens for their expertise, vision, and compassion while serving on the United Way Board of Directors. We wish them well in their future endeavors.
