Sen. Tommy Norment returned for his latest update on the actions of the Virginia General Assembly. He has been in the state senate since 1991 and is now majority leader of that body. He gave a most informative talk, spiced with his customary wit and good humor. In addition to the budget, he spoke about the long-term economic health of Hampton Roads, which is heavily dependent on a large military presence. He also brought up the governor's recent executive order restoring voting rights to convicted felons who had served their term and were now out of prison. Senator Norment praised the principle of this action but lamented that it was being implemented without careful preparation and planning. President Chuck Hobson presented Tommy with a certificate of a children's book donation in his honor to the Williamsburg Regional Library.
