The Virginia Choral Society (VCS) is pleased to announce and welcome our new Artistic Director, Ms. Sarah Frook. Here are few of her accomplishments and choral/conducting background.
In addition to her work with the Virginia Choral Society, Ms. Frook conducts the Men's Chorus at Christopher Newport University and the Women's Chorus at the College of William & Mary. Currently, she is also an adjunct professor of Voice at the University of Richmond, a professional chorister with the Virginia Chorale, and a collaborative pianist at various institutions.
In the course of her work as a conductor and educator, Ms. Frook has worked with groups of all ages and levels of ability. She has served as a church musician, professional soloist, and orchestral conductor, and her breadth of experience has given her the chance to perform in Italy, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Russia, and Romania.
Most recently, she served as Assistant Conductor to Dr. Lauren Fowler on a trip to Europe and conducted a choir in services at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the Dom in Salzburg.
Ms. Frook received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the College of William & Mary and her Master of Music in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.
Her conducting teachers include William Weinert, Jamie Bartlett, Bradley Lubman, Simon Carrington, and Joseph Flummerfelt.
Ms. Frook takes over as Artistic Director from Mr. James Powers who retired at the end of our last concert season.
VCS is currently completing the 2015-2016 concert schedule for this upcoming year and the full schedule will be announced in the near term.
Auditions are being scheduled for August 1, 2015. Please refer to our webpage for more information about VCS and to schedule an audition with Ms. Frook.
Rehearsals begin on August 3, 2015.
