Virginia Master Naturalist Receives York County 2016 Outstanding Volunteer Award

Historic Rivers Chapter Virginia Master Naturalist Chapter Volunteer Jan Lockwood was honored as a recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Volunteer Awards on April 18 in York Hall, Yorktown during the York County Board of Supervisors meeting. New Quarter Park Supervisor Molly Nealer submitted the nomination for Lockwood's leadership as Volunteer Bluebird Trail Coordinator heading up a group of volunteers who monitor 19 bluebird nesting boxes on the property. During the presentation, Nealer noted that Lockwood also coordinates bird walks, held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at the park, led by a member of the Williamsburg Bird Club, and she commented that Bird Clubs and Master Naturalists as well as New Quarter Park staff count on Jan for so many projects and citizen science efforts.
