The Saint Bede Outreach Center is able to be one of the largest area service providers in Williamsburg/James City County because its operations are a true community effort.
Financially, it is supported by the giving of parishioners during a monthly second collection at Masses and through individual program sponsors. This is especially true of our First Friday Mobile Food Pantry. The Williamsburg Area Association of Realtors (WAAR)'s 75 offices and affiliate member offices recently partnered in a grant for eight months of support to our Mobile Food Pantry. Plus, they are sending 20 volunteers each month to unload the food truck from the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and distribute food alongside parishioners. They have even started bringing their families to participate, making it a true project of families serving families. WAAR's support of time and finances have made it possible to double the number of families served! With their help, the Mobile Food Pantry was able to feed 601 people on November 6th. Their partnership in bringing food to the hungry is a great example of the collaboration and commitment between service providers and area businesses in strengthening Williamsburg families. Local schools like Veritas Preparatory School and the parish's moms' group bring children and families to serve, as well.
The Outreach Center has also partnered with our local Walgreens pharmacies to provide flu vaccines, free of charge. The Outreach Center mission is to provide resources and tools that enable families to be healthier. Fresh food for family meals and preventative health measures give our families an opportunity to face the winter cold and flu season with strength.
