Wallace scholarship foundation celebrates 27th anniversary

The Wilbert M. Wallace Scholarship Foundation recently awarded scholarships to four graduating seniors during their respective school's awards ceremony. Each recipient received a $1,500 scholarship, including (pictured, from left): Cherelle Matthews, Bruton High School; Kyle Forbes, Jamestown High; Rickayla Strong, Lafayette High; and (not pictured) Antonio Gaines, Tabb High School.
The scholarship foundation is named in honor of the late Wilbert M. Wallace, who was an instructor and administrator with York County Schools for more than 34 years. The scholarship was established by one of his former students, Curtis L. Taylor. Scholarship recipients are graduating seniors in York and James City counties and in the City of Williamsburg who each met the qualification requirements.
The Wilbert M. Wallace Scholarship Foundation will celebrate its 27th anniversary during a banquet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Sadler Center, on the campus of the College of William & Mary. Individuals interested in attending the banquet, making a donation, or who desire additional information should contact Lloyd Wallace at 220-0807.
