Walnut Hills Baptist Church hosted a cook-out and a pizza/ice cream social for J-1 Visa students housed at the Pineapple Inn on Richmond Road. With a J-1 Visa, international students come to Williamsburg to work in the hospitality industry for up to 3 months, followed by a month of travel. Students have secured jobs before their arrival and pay all their expenses. Under the leadership of Rev. Jeffrey Buffkin, Baptist campus minister at William and Mary and assistant, Zeko Wezah, Walnut Hills members provide assistance to the students by serving as summer families, conducting English conversational groups, organizing sports activities and helping students to experience American culture.
